And here I was, having never made a loaf in my life, with only 2 reasons for wanting one:- That I happened to fall in love with a jalapeno-cheddar bread that regularly sells for 7$/loaf at the grocery store; and - During a bout of insomnia, I had stumbled on a really cute HSN infomercial for the Command Performance Bread Maker that can still be found on YouTube for entertainment (red shirt on image preview). After a few review-comparisons however, I settled on this particular machine because: - Owners who previously owned other machines gave this one good reviews and tons of points for fluffiness (3 rise cycles); - Reasonable price, decent look; - Free shipping in Canada. Read more 14 of 14 people found the following review helpful Excellent Breadmaker, This review is from: West Bend 41300 Hi-Rise Electronic Dual-Blade Breadmaker, Black (Kitchen) I bought the West Bend 41300 breadmaker as a birthday present for my boyfriend (with the 'Betty Crocker Best Bread Machine Cookbook.) It's a well-made, good-looking machine & seems to work well. The first couple of loaves he made weren't that great but he figured out it was because we'd been opening the lid of the machine to check the progress while it was rising & baking. DO NOT DO THIS! It will cause the top of your loaf to sink, give it a very hard, brittle crust & make your loaf dense & heavy. If you want to peek at the loaf while it is baking, look through the window on the lid. This is not in the trouble-shooting section of the manual but should be - we just discovered it through trial & error. Otherwise, we have been very happy with this machine. The dual paddles mix the dough very thoroughly & it is surprisingly quiet during the mixing operation. Shipping was fast and I was making bread quickly.I have never owned a breadmaker before so I have nothing to compare it to but I like this one. The delay timer is very handy and it is very easy to clean. The manual is not very clear on some things (like what is the 'process' button for?)but the recipies included are excellent. The only con is the signal noise. It is very loud and goes off about 10 times. I can't actually see using this to cook bread overnight as the sound would probably wake the whole house. There does not seem to be away to turn it off. Other than that I am very happy. |
