Before that, I had a few other bread makers (vertical Philips Deluxe, Horizontal Philips, Tefal home bread baguette bread maker) and had a close look at pretty much every model available at Sears, Canadian Tire, Walmart, Costco and Zellers (Cuisinart, B&D, West Bend and so on). Most bread maker models had remarkably low quality with poor design, disgusting appearance, cheap knobs falling out or in, poor coating, sharp edges, aluminum or plastic transmissions and even plastic kneading blades (!). Before Tefal, I also bought the famous Kitchen Aid mixer, quite advanced, expensive and powerful (600 Wt) model, but, surprisingly, it could not prepare whole wheat dough properly, the process was quite messy, aluminum hook etc., so I returned it back to the store. Quality build, you can tell right away. Nice to see a recipe book that gives you the option of using regular active dry yeast vs quick rise yeast. Have used this machine with generic bread machine recipe books, with very good success. Also nice to see that the Zojirushi web site offers good support (as in replacement parts) if you ever need it. Machine makes a nice hmmmmm when it runs, vs. typical clackity-clank of most lower end machines. It kneads a great loaf though I found my first couple of loaves of bread lopsized. Still tasted great though. There is a bit of a learning curve for this machine. I have the baby Zo as well but purchased this for those times when a bigger loaf is needed. There has been complaints about the top being undercooked. I didn't find that to be the case though it does produce a lighter loaf than other bread machines that I've used. The price here on Amazon is great for Canada. In fact I think the price is just as cheap or cheaper than those advertised in the US. Though this machine is certainly alot more expensive than others you do get what you pay for and it's worth every penny. Highly recommended. |
